Historic Places and Battlefields
Conflict and war has left its mark on the region from the Roman times, through the Middle Ages and right up to the World Wars of the 20th century. Battle sites, monuments, castles and fortified towns abound, and some have excellent visitor centre facilities.

The Cote dOpale
The unspoilt coast of the Pas De Calais running from Dunkerque in the north to the Bay of the Somme in the south, contains many of the finest beaches in northern Europe. The sands and dunes make them perfect playgrounds for families and children, and the small coastal resorts are full of good restaurants.
